Whether you're a longtime member or new to our community, everyone is welcome! This group will be led by Rev. Morgan Guyton and will meet in West Wing room 108. Unveiling Revelation: A Journey Through the Apocalypse
Starts: Sunday, Sept. 29th, 2024 Sundays, 9:30–10:30am, in person (in West Wing Sunday school room 108 Facilitator: Rev. Dr. Art Wright The last book of the Bible is one of the most misunderstood, mysterious, and often ignored. For centuries, it has puzzled Christians and biblical scholars alike. Martin Luther famously said, "Christ is neither taught nor known in it." John Calvin wrote a commentary on every book of the Bible except Revelation! But what if the secrets of this enigmatic text hold crucial insights for how we navigate our faith in today's complex world? What if Revelation isn't just about the "end times" (or even at all about the end times!), but rather about the hope, resilience, and courage we need as Christians in the world today? Join us as we venture bravely into the message of Revelation and seek to uncover its relevance for our lives today. This 5-week Bible study will be led by Rev. Dr. Art Wright and will meet on Sunday mornings from 9:30am–10:30am in the West Wing room 108. Enter in the right door from the parking lot, go up the short flight of stairs, turn right down the hallway, and you'll see us in the second room on the left—door will be open! Contact Art Wright or Bill Bogdan with any questions. (However, Art suggests that you contact Bill with the really hard questions! 😇) |
AFTER EVANGELICALISM: by David Gushee
Starts: Sunday, Jan. 14th, 2024 Sundays, 9:30–10:30am, in person (in West Wing Sunday school room 108) Facilitator: Erica Berkshire Evangelicalism continues to be one of the most popular “flavors” of Christianity in the United States today. As a result, many seem to think that Inerrancy, indifference to the environment, purity culture, racism, LGBTQ discrimination, male dominance, and Christian nationalism go hand-in-hand with following Christ. It’s largely because of these things that many people have moved through a period of “deconstructing” their faith or have lef the church altogether. How do we understand our own relationship to this particular expression of Christianity as people of faith, and how do we move beyond this understanding to one that is rooted in the witness of Jesus and faithful to what it means to be God’s people today? We will meet in the West Wing room 108. Enter in the right door from the parking lot, go up the short flight of stairs, turn right down the hallway, and you'll see us in the room at the end of the hall—door will be open! Note: we may move down to the Social Hall if we get a big crowd! We encourage you to get a copy of the book in advance, or let us know in the church office and we’ll be glad to get you a copy. Contact Art Wright or Erica Berkshire with any questions. We hope you'll join us! |
