Starts: Monday, November 10, 2025 Mondays, 6:00–7:30pm, in person (in the Fellowship Lounge) Contact: Rev. Kali Cawthon-Freels Discover the Courage Within You… There are moments in life when we stand at a crossroads—called to move beyond fear and act with purpose. How We Learn to Be Brave, by Bishop Mariann Budde, is a guide for those moments. With honesty, grace, and deep spiritual wisdom, Bishop Budde shows us how to meet life’s greatest challenges with courage that is steady, compassionate, and true. Being brave isn’t a single act—it’s a lifelong journey of becoming. Through stories, insight, and reflection, How We Learn to Be Brave invites you to live each day from your strongest, most authentic self. Whether you’re navigating uncertainty, seeking renewal, or longing for clarity, this book offers both a path and a promise: that courage can be learned, practiced, and lived. Join us as we explore what it means to be brave—together. This group starts Monday, November 10th (6–7:30pm in the Fellowship Lounge) and will continue through December 15th! We have some copies of the book available if you need one. Reach out to Rev. Kali Cawthon-Freels if you have questions! **Enter in the right door from the parking lot and turn immediately left into the Fellowship Lounge (where our coffee bar is). We hope you'll join us! |

Transforming: The Bible and the Lives of Transgender Christians
Starts: September 14, 2025 Sundays, 9:30–10:30am, in person (in West Wing Sunday school room 108) Facilitator: Revs. Kali Cawthon-Freels and Art Wright In 2014, Time magazine announced that America had reached “the transgender tipping point,” suggesting that transgender issues would become the next civil rights frontier. Years later, many people—even many LGBTQIA+ allies—still lack understanding of gender identity and the transgender experience. Into this void, trans biblical scholar Austen Hartke brings a biblically based, educational, and affirming resource to shed light and wisdom on gender expansiveness and Christian theology. Transforming deftly weaves ancient and modern stories that will change the way readers think about gender, the Bible, and the faith to which Jesus calls us. Hartke helps readers visualize a more inclusive Christianity, equipping them with the language, understanding, confidence, and tools to change both the church and the world. We will meet in the West Wing room 108. Enter in the right door from the parking lot, go up the short flight of stairs, turn right down the hallway, and you'll see us in the room at the end of the hall—door will be open! We encourage you to get a copy of the book in advance, or let us know in the church office and we’ll be glad to get you a copy. Contact Art Wright or Kali Cawthon-Freels with any questions. We hope you'll join us! |
