IF GOD IS LOVE, DON'T BE A JERK (Starts June 26, 2022!)
Sunday mornings, 9:30–10:30am in West Wing room 105 Facilitator: Ed Sadowski We hope you will join us for this Spiritual Formation Class on Sunday mornings at 9:30am as we read and discuss John Pavlovitz’s wonderfully provocative book, If God is Love, Don’t Be a Jerk: Finding a Faith that Makes Us Better Humans. In it, Pavlovitz examines some of the bedrock ideas of our religion: the existence of hell, the utility of prayer, the way we treat people who are different than us, the value of anger, and other doctrines to help all of us take a good, honest look at how the beliefs we hold can shape our relationships with God and our fellow humans―and to make sure that love has the last, loudest word. We really would love for you to join us! Let Art Wright (pastor@williamsburgbaptist.com) or Ed Sadowski know if you have any questions. We are going to try to make this available via Zoom, too: Please click the link below to join! |
Pray Then in This Way: New Perspectives on the Lord's Prayer
Starts: June 29, 2022 (7 weeks) Wednesdays, 7–8pm via Zoom (Zoom link here) Facilitators: Rev. Dr. Art Wright and Rev. Chris Crowley (Pastor, Ginter Park Baptist Church) Many Christians pray the Lord’s Prayer on a daily or weekly basis. It is perhaps one of the most prayed prayers of all time! The danger of familiarity, however, is that the words of the prayer simply become rote for many of us. Does a prayer mean—or do—anything if we utter the words automatically, without any sense of the significance they possess? In this special summer Zoom series, we will invite a diverse group of scholars to share different perspectives on the Lord’s Prayer to help us see new layers of meaning, so that we can approach the prayer with new intention. Our hope is that when we do pray this prayer again, we will be empowered to pray it in a way that is transformational once again—just as it surely was for Jesus’s earliest followers! We are delighted to offer this series as a partnership between Ginter Park Baptist Church (Richmond, VA) and Williamsburg Baptist Church. We really would love for you to join us! Let Art Wright (pastor@williamsburgbaptist.com) know if you have any questions. |
Sunday Morning Hybrid Bible Study
Starts: February 2022 (ongoing) Sundays, 9:30–10:30am, currently in person and via Zoom (in West Wing Sunday school room 108; Zoom link here) Facilitator: Art Wright Our pastor is currently leading a Bible Study on Sunday mornings based on each week's sermon text! This is an opportunity to dig in-depth into the Scripture passage and to discuss together. We have been having wonderful conversations together, and have found rich, new dimensions of meaning in the texts! Art often laments that he wishes this group could meet before he prepared his weekly sermon! We really would love for you to join us! Let Art Wright (pastor@williamsburgbaptist.com) know if you have any questions. If you are joining us in-person, we will be in the West Wing room 108. Enter in the right door from the parking lot, go up the short flight of stairs, turn right down the hallway, and go all the way to the end of the hall. |
