2025 Summer Worship

2025 Summer Sermon Series

We're excited to announce our 2025 summer worship plan! If you don't know, for the past several years we have been following the Narrative Lectionary, which runs from early September through Pentecost (June 8th this year). One of the things that we love about the NL is that it gives us the summers "off," and so we have the opportunity to put together some fun and creative sermon series. Our Worship Council has been hard at work planning, and we're thrilled to share our plan for this summer.

We know summer is busy for many of us, but we hope you'll make plans to join us when you are in town (or via livestream!) as we move through these meaningful series together!

Summer of Psalms: Singing our Faith
(June 15th to July 13th)

This summer we will dive into the poetry, honesty, and beauty of the Psalms. The Psalms are some of the most formative songs of our faith, and have shaped Jewish and Christian worship for millennia. Each Sunday in worship, we’ll encounter a different Psalm, reading and singing ancient words that continue to speak into our modern lives in powerful and unexpected ways.

Our worship will be rich in music, with special musical offerings each week inspired by the Psalm of the day. You’ll hear a wide variety of styles led by some of the amazingly talented musicians from our congregation!

We’ll reflect on themes like lament, belonging, wonder, and community, and on our final Sunday, we’ll share contemporary psalms written by members of our own church family. Hope you'll make plans to join us.

If you missed a week or three, you can click the sermon titles once they are posted below for the podcasts from each of the sermons.

Tentative Schedule:
June 15th - Psalm 23 -
June 22nd - Psalm 42 -
June 29th - Psalm 102 -
July 6th - Psalm 139 -
July 13th - Psalm 1 and Community Psalms -

Bumper Sticker Theology: In Search of a Deeper Faith
(July 20th - August 31st)

“I can do all things… through a verse taken out of context.”

This summer, join us for a sermon series that’s intended to be playful and light, while also pointing us toward a deeper faith. We’re calling it Bumper Sticker Theology, and we’ll examine some of the catchy phrases we’ve all seen on car bumpers, church signs, or social media posts. Phrases like “God said it, I believe it, that settles it” and “Too blessed to be stressed” sound so good and concise, and might look good while sitting in traffic—but do they hold up when we really stop to think about it?

Each week, we’ll pair a familiar slogan with relevant Scripture and unpack the theology (and sometimes the harm) behind it. Along the way, we’ll explore biblical authority, interfaith dialogue, Christian nationalism, gender identity, and what it really means to live a life shaped by Jesus’s teachings.

God is calling us to a more thoughtful, deeper faith. Hope you'll join us as we reconsider some of these common phrases and what it means to be people of faith today. We might also make you think twice next time you’re stuck behind someone at a red light!

Tentative Schedule:
July 20th - "God Said It, I Believe It, That Settles It.”
July 27 - "Coexist"
August 3 - "Jesus, Take the Wheel!”
August 10 - "Honk If You Love Jesus!"
August 17 - Christian Nationalism (Patriotic and Christian imagery)
August 24 - "Too Blessed to Be Stressed"
August 31 - “Male and Female He Created Them”

September 7th - We'll return to the Narrative Lectionary on September 7th! We'll begin in the very beginning, with Genesis 1:1 and work our way through the Hebrew Scriptures in the fall and then flip over to the Gospel of John at Christmas! You can find out more about the Narrative Lectionary here.

You can also preview the Narrative Lectionary Scripture passages that we'll be following in worship at this link here.
