History:
Our current Steinway piano in the sanctuary was built in 1970 and was given as a donation to the church several decades ago. It has served our congregation well for decades. Our musicians have used it to lead us in worship; its music has comforted and uplifted us during funerals and weddings; and it has accompanied countless hymns and choral selections. We give thanks to God for this gift and for this piano’s long and faithful service.

Why We Need a New Piano:
As much as we love it, however, the Steinway piano is simply worn out. It needs regular maintenance to stay in tune, and keeping it playable requires more money in maintenance than is wise for our church. It would need significant repairs to bring it to the point where it would not require monthly or bi-monthly tuning, and these are cost prohibitive.

Fundraising Goal:
Instruments, like people, serve for a season, and our musicians have identified a replacement that will serve us best in terms of sound, the space in our sanctuary, maintenance costs, and our financial means. With the support of our Worship and Admin councils, they plan to buy a Yamaha Clavinova CLP895GP (digital baby grand piano) from Parker Piano Outlet to replace the sanctuary piano. With the trade-in value on the Steinway, our total cost will be $4,894.

The Yamaha is a top-of-the-line digital baby grand piano, designed with performance halls and worship spaces in mind. It combines the beauty and sound of a grand piano with the reliability, low maintenance, and versatility of digital technology. This new piano will be temperature and moisture resistant, have minimal maintenance costs, and will actually save us approximately $1,000 in tuning costs per year. Over time, it will actually save us money. The piano looks nice, has a smaller footprint than the Steinway, and will actually make it easier to get into the sanctuary from the fellowship lounge and communion room.

Our Campaign:
We invite you to join us in donating to buy this new instrument for our worship space in the weeks ahead, in hopes that we will have the new piano in our sanctuary by the first Sunday in Advent (Nov. 30th). This is a short, 6-week campaign to focus energy and attention on this. Our musicians feel a sense of urgency to replace the current piano due to deterioration of the Steinway, ongoing tuning costs, and rising costs for new pianos.

Donations can be made by mailing a check to the church or placing it in the offering plate with "Piano Fundraiser" in the memo. You can also make a donation online by clicking the "Donate Now" tab on this page and designating an online gift to "Piano Fundraiser." We'll share updates on our progress in the weekly e-news and on our website. Donations beyond our goal will go into the Organ Repair Fund.

We give thanks for the Steinway’s season among us, and we are excited that this new piano will enrich our communal worship for years to come.
