WBConcert Series

WBC’s inaugural concert series kicks off on Sunday, November 4, at 4 pm with The American Youth Harp Ensemble, a unique group of 10 harpists from the Richmond area. Through television and radio performances on CNN, ABC, PBS, and NPR, this ensemble has achieved national recognition for its musical and imaginative programming of music arranged for harp ensemble. The ensemble has also performed at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, the United Nations, the Edinburgh Festival, the American Harp Society National Conference, and internationally in Germany, Milan, and Paris. The concert will be held in the sanctuary and is free and open to the public. An offering will be taken, and sponsor donations are being accepted by those who wish to assist in underwriting the series.

A Word From Our Pastor

DEAR ONES

Our youngest and I had a ritual when she was at pre-school. One of her first mornings, you see, she was feeling a little insecure and wasn’t ready for me to go. So, I sat down with her on my leg, held her awhile, then asked if she would like a horsey ride. Humming the William Tell Overture (also the theme for the Lone Ranger series, if you’re old enough to remember), I would bounce her on my knee. The music would get faster and faster. The knee would bounce higher and the rider in every direction. A smile would burst forth like the sun of the morning. Then we both were ready for the day.

BUT ONE MORNING, another little child stood shyly watching with obvious interest in our fun. So I invited her to join us on the other knee. What fun we had! Thereafter, this little rider joined our regular ritual. And a couple of days later a third joined. Then, a fourth. And, one day, actually numbers five and six! With three on each leg, giggling, clinging to each other, all bouncing away!

I was stronger then.

But maybe I was stronger then because of that exercise!

And they were great days!

If you would make great days for yourself and for our church, give time and attention and all your love to the children. They need our time, our attention, our embrace, and a few more knees on which to ride! This past Sunday’s worship emphasis was the children. Make the children your mission. Speak to them. Learn their names. Join their play. Invite the children of your neighborhood to our church, for Jesus said, “Let the children come unto me...”

See you where the church gathers. JIM
