Williamsburg Baptist Church announces its inaugural concert series for 2007-2008.

The season will kick off on Sunday, November 4, at 4:00 PM with The American Youth Harp Ensemble, a unique group of ten harpists from the Richmond area. Through its television and radio performances on CNN, ABC, PBS, and NPR, this ensemble has achieved national recognition for its musical and imaginative programming of music arranged for harp ensemble. The ensemble has also performed at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, the United Nations, the Edinburgh Festival, the American Harp Society National Conference, and internationally in Germany, Milan, and Paris.

The Virginia Handbell Consort will present a lively program entitled Holiday Classics for Handbells on Friday evening, December 7, at 7:30 PM. The ensemble is composed of auditioned handbell ringers from the Hampton Roads area, under the direction of Agnes French. Their 2007 Christmas program will include selections from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite and from Handel’s Messiah.

David and Ginger Hildebrand will bring history to life on Sunday afternoon, January 20, at 4:00 PM. Interweaving stories with vocal and instrumental song, they will transport the audience back to 18th Century Virginia, playing period instruments such as Baroque violin, English guitar, hammered dulcimer, Baroque flute, and harpsichord.

Returning by popular demand, Williamsburg’s newest professional choral ensemble, Cantori, will sing its third Palm Sunday Vesper Service at Williamsburg Baptist on Sunday evening, March 16, at 7:30 PM. Highlighting the musical presentation will be John Rutter’s Requiem.

Music performed by the King of Instruments and the Instruments of Kings will be presented on Sunday afternoon, April 20, at 4:00, as the Virginia Symphony Brass Quintet joins forces with organist Agnes French in a rousing performance of music for brass and organ.

All concerts will be held in the church sanctuary, and are free and open to the public. An offering will be taken at each concert, and sponsor donations are being accepted by those who wish to assist in underwriting the series.

For further information, contact Agnes French at the church, 229-1217.
